CLASTE COLLECTION

Claste_Quinlan Osborne.jpg

Since its inception Claste Collection has produced a body of work built around a cultivated aesthetic rooted in a new minimalism which has resulted in a refined, sensual collection which provides grounded moments of reflection, devoid of distraction yet monumental and bold. The sculptural nature of the work explores new ways and means of infusing traditional materials such as marble and glass with notions of permanence and tension that elicit a deeper more emotional connection resulting in pieces that appear impossibly stable yet visually grounded. Combining an in-depth knowledge of traditional techniques of craftsmanship and artisanry with a desire to push the boundaries of what is possible with modern technology and fabrication processes the work blends the familiar with the extraordinary and invites people to re-examine their expectations of what furniture should be and how it is traditionally used.

Founder and Creative Director Quinlan Osborne has established an instantaneously recognizable aesthetic for Claste Collection that is rooted in the passion for contemporary design he developed while practicing as an Architect for fifteen years prior to shifting his attention to the world of collectible design and furniture. His architectural background continues to inform his minimalist philosophy beyond the visual to include themes such as tension, fragility and the idea of threshold as experience. These notions characterize his desire to challenge prevailing notions of what furniture is and push the boundaries of how furniture can simultaneously remain relevant within both the world of design as well as contemporary art. His work for Claste Collection has been featured in Architectural Digest, Wallpaper Magazine, Elle Decor and New York Times T-Magazine amongst many other print and online publications and has also been recognized with numerous high-profile international design awards, including the Archiproducts Design Award, the Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Art and Design and the Grands Prix du Design for Quebec.
